Klopp reveals how he stopped Cristiano Ronaldo with Borussia Dortmund

As Liverpool prepare to take on Real Madrid in the Champions League Final, one of the biggest concerns from them would be how to stop Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese has been in red hot scoring form in the Champions League scoring 15 goals in just 12 Champions League games this season.

Cristiano also went on to score in 10 consecutive games this season and only missed out scoring in the two legged tie against Bayern Munich.

Klopp talked in an interview to Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler for English Website Mirror and the German revealed how he managed to keep Cristiano Ronaldo quiet against Dortmund.

Klopp looked back at Liverpool’s fantastic Champions League campaign and pointed out the victory over Porto as the start of things.

“I think the 5-0 (against Porto) was the first time everybody went ‘Wow!’. Porto was the first time people asked, ‘What is going on there?’. Because Porto are a really good team. And that night we were really surprised by ourselves to go there and win 5-0 – there’s no chance to do that!”

“And then Man City, for sure. For me they were the favourites for the Champions League this year, No.1 favourite. The way they play, they decide as a club they have to win it, and then you beat them. In the end, we are still here,” said Klopp. (as reported by the Mirror)

Klopp then went on to reveal how he managed to keep Cristiano Ronaldo quiet against Borussia Dortmund in their home game which they won 4-1.

“Mario Gotze played man-marking against Alonso! That’s true. Everybody knew it before. Alonso gets the ball, turns, Ronaldo is on his bike already. So we played Mario man-marking against Alonso in the 4-1 at home. And it worked pretty well,” said Klopp (as per English Website Mirror)

Klopp reveals that closing the supply from the midfield helped him keep Cristiano Ronaldo in check during the clash against Borussia Dortmund so they must be applying the same strategy in the Final too. Luka Modric and Toni Kroos need to be aware of this.
