Marcelo responds to Isco being booed last night and refusing to take Captain’s armband

Real Madrid suffered one of their worst nights in the history of the club as their 0-3 loss to CSKA Moscow was their heaviest European home defeat.  However, the result didn’t effect the group much as Real Madrid still progressed as first in their group. Real Madrid now await their round of 16 opponent which will be unveiled in the draws on Monday.

Real Madrid’s Captain of the night was Marcelo, who talked to the media after an embarrassing night at the Bernabeu. One of the journalists pointed out that Madrid gave up towards the end of the game. However, Marcelo insisted that Real Madrid did not give up.

“In Madrid we fight until the end. We never lowered our shoulders but it is difficult to play in a game like that. Three nil is a difficult score to overcome but we tried till the end of the game.”

Real Madrid midfielder Isco has been in and out of the team since Solari took over and last night he wasn’t at his best as he was also jeered by the sections of the Bernabeu crowd.

While coming off, it was observed that Marcelo wanted to give the Captain’s armband to Isco who refused. Marcelo was asked about the incident and he answered:

“I tried to give the Captain’s armband to Isco but he asked me to give it to Carvajal. I don’t know why.”

Marcelo also talked about Isco being jeered during the game and the left back said:

“The fans have the right to whistle someone if they are not happy with him. It has also happened to me. We are a team and we are going to work together so it does not happen anymore.”

Real Madrid now prepare to face Rayo Vallecano in La Liga before flying to Dubai for their Club World Cup campaign.
