The signing of Thibaut Courtois from Chelsea this summer has made it clear that Keylor Navas no longer remains the number one choice goalkeeper at Real Madrid. Navas who has been instrumental in Real Madrid’s Champions League triumphs for the past 3 years has been constantly facing the axe and has been limited only to Copa Del Rey matches.
Much to the disappointment of Keylor Navas, even in the dead rubber game against CSKA Moscow in the Champions League, Navas was not given a starting spot with Courtois starting ahead of him.
Other than Navas, one player whose place in the side remains uncertain is Isco who seems to have broken down in support with the fans. The midfielder was booed in the game against CSKA and he appeared to be frustrated with the fans.
Isco was not given any playing time in Real Madrid’s 1-0 win over Rayo Vallecano. Solari was questioned about Isco not getting playing time against Rayo and the Madrid Manager replied:
“My interest is that all Madrid players are happy and committed and I want to ensure that. We all work for that.”
“I try not to make mistakes in formations and substitutions and this is a part of my job.”
Solari was pretty clear about making sure all his players are satisfied and happy with the playing time that’s why he brought on Ceballos instead of Isco.
Keylor Navas is also unhappy with the lack of playing time at Real Madrid and the goalkeeper said in an interview “I went from winning three Champions League in a row to not playing at all.”
Asked about Keylor Navas’s situation at Real Madrid, Solari answered:
“Navas has all my respect and admiration as a footballer and as a man. He has given us pleasure, to me as a fan in recent years. The most thankless part is to select the team, and it’s unavoidable. It’s a part of my job.”
