Fabio Coentrao reveals if he would like to return to Real Madrid or not

Portuguese left back Fabio Coentrao still has one year left on his Real Madrid contract. The Portuguese is playing for Sporting Lisbon these days and he is enjoying a lot of match time under his belt. Coentrao had a spectacular start to his Madrid career winning the league in his first season and winning the Champions League two years later, but since then it has been a struggle for him.

Coentrao talked to MARCA in an interview in which he revealed how things went bad for him at Real Madrid. The Portuguese International said:

“Look, it’s like this: when you’re at a club where you play a game and then you don’t get a chance until seven games later, always training and knowing that you’re not going to play… you let yourself go. You get down. That’s what happened with me at Madrid.”

Coentrao was asked if he scores a goal against Real Madrid, would he celebrate? He answered:

“Of course I wouldn’t celebrate a goal if I scored against Madrid. I have a lot of respect for Real Madrid, they have given me everything.”

Being asked if he would like to return to the Spanish Giants after completion of his loan spell at Sporting Lisbon or he would love to stay at Sporting? Coentrao answered:

“If you ask me if I want to stay, the answer is yes.”

“I want to stay, because I found happiness here again. I know that I have a contract with Real Madrid and I will do what they tell me because I am deeply grateful for how they treated me.”

“ I am doing well here and I would like to stay at Sporting until the end of my career.”
