Barcelona defeated Valencia in the first leg of Copa Del Rey Semi Final thanks to a goal from Luis Suarez. The Catalan side hold a slender advantage going into the second leg with many believing that it would be hard to stop them from progressing to the Spanish Cup Final.
The Uruguyan headed home Barcelona’s only goal of the game to give his side a narrow win but he was involved in an on field tussle with the Valencia defender Gabriel.
Talking to the reporters after the game, Gabriel revealed what the discussion was between him and Luis Suarez. He said:
“He (Suarez) told me that I was a cagon, and I told him that he was a good player, that he was the best No. 9 in the world.
“But that stays on the pitch, now we forget it and that’s it. These are the matters for the pitch.”
Gabriel Paulista also admits that there is a certain sense of favourism when playing at the Camp Nou as the Referee tends to favour Barcelona with most of the decisions.
“My teammates say that Sergi Roberto’s tackle on Pereira was red, we are in the Camp Nou and we have to fight against Barça and against referees.”
“We fought until the end as Marcelino wanted, it’s the first battle and we had to give our all for the team. Now onto the next game.”
Valencia now host Barcelona for the return leg exactly a week later at the Mestalla and they’ll be looking for a change of fortunes as they have lost their last 4 consecutive games in all competitions.
