Real Madrid Manager Zinedine Zidane admitted being hurt after Real Madrid dropped further ground in the race for La Liga title. Zidane’s rotation policy once again failed to impress and his side lost away to Espanyol and now they are on the brink of slipping down to the fourth spot again if Valencia wins their next La Liga fixture.
Zidane’s men failed to score for the first time in 6 games and the visitors were dealt with a huge blow when Espanyol scored at the 93 minute to take all three points.
Talking to the post-match press conference, Zidane said:
“We didn’t deserve the defeat. It hurts. Espanyol had few chances. It’s a bad result.”
“Sometimes, you can’t understand football. You have to accept the bad times. After five games of good results and good play, today we didn’t manage it.”
Zidane also accepted that his side failed to get into their groove as they struggled for form and didn’t take the chances that came their way.
“We started very well in the first half and we had chances, but didn’t score. We didn’t find our style of play or any depth in the second half.”
“When it’s 0-0 there are things that can happen. We always try to win and in the end we couldn’t do it. It’s worse because at the end they scored a goal in the last minute. It’s difficult after that effort.”
French Defender Raphael Varane insisted that the team is focused on La Liga too after accusations that the team doesn’t pay much importance to the League. Varane said:
“The Champions League motivates us a lot, but we can’t give up in the league and lose games. We are proud and we are Real Madrid.”
